As the big freeze claimed every single Welsh League game last Saturday (4th February), Monmouth Town's high flying Kingfishers remain on course to clinch promotion to Welsh League Division One, leading the table by 15 points with just 11 games to go.

Town, sponsored by WyeMedia, have been kicking their heels for a month since a one-one draw against neighbours Croesyceiliog but will be looking to get back to winning ways this Saturday against relegation threatened Bettws (kick off 2pm) with all the smart money thinking that just four more wins will clinch that coveted place alongside the likes of former Champions League entrants Barry Town and bigger fish like Bridgend Town and Haverfordwest County.

Town's chairman Lee Robson explained: "60 points have been enough in the past six seasons to clinch promotion and 63 enough to win  the title.

"Our next five games will go a long way to deciding what's what with games against our three main challengers and the bottom two.

"Avoiding defeat against our main challengers means they drop points too so there's no need to panic if we drop a point here and there.

"We've done some superb work to get us in a great position."

Robson also pointed out that he didn't think losing ace striker Dan MacDonald (pictured left), who has been transferred to Carmarthen Town for an undisclosed fee, would have too much impact.

"We didn't try to sign a replacement in the January transfer window because we have faith in the rest of the squad to finish the job.

"Dan was terrific for us and goes with our good wishes but that was then.

"Elliot Ford has been banging them in and Bouch (Matthew Bowen) has been loading the bullets for others to fire but has been good for 20 over the past five seasons or so. I'm not worried. Honest."
