FROZEN pitches put paid to much of the weekend’s football programme, with the Monmouth Town v Chepstow Town derby among the casualties.
Fellow Monmouthshire outfit Caldicot Town went down 2-1 at home to Ardal South East leaders Risca United, unluckily hitting the woodwork three times.
County village side Goytre also won 1-0 in the same league at Lliswerry, while Undy Athletic drew 0-0 at Trethomas Bluebirds.
Monmouthshire’s top-ranked team, Abergavenny, were brought down to earth with a bump though in the JD Cymru League at Briton Ferry in midweek, beaten 8-0.
Chepstow outfit Thornwell R&W fought back from being 1-0 down to triumph 2-1 at home to Oak FC in Gwent Premier Division 2 to keep the pressure on frontrunners Mardy and Neuadd Wen, with a visit to the latter up next this Saturday (December 17).
East Gwent One leaders Underwood beat Caldicot Castle 5-1 to go seven points clear of Monmouth’s Rockfield Rovers, who didn’t play but have a game in hand.
Goytre host Treowen Stars tomorrow night (Thursday, December 15), while Abergavenny host Barry Town United on Friday.
