EX-Monmouth School pupil Hallam Amos is set to earn his first cap for Wales this Friday (22nd November) in the clash against Tonga.
Gatland's squad sees only four players remaining in the starting line-up from Wales' landslide victory against Argentina last Saturday (16th October).
Amos is set to play on the wing alongside George North.
"We are very pleased and very proud of him," said Dr Steven Connors, Amos' former headteacher at Monmouth School.
"It has come unexpectedly early because of injuries in the Wales squad, but we have every confidence in him to do well.
"Hallam was a professional during his time at sixth form after signing for the Newport Gwent Dragons and has done well for his club for a number of years.
"He is a big strong, intelligent lad with lots of pace. He has the skill to beat defenders and can tackle, too.
"It is a very exciting day for us, here."
With Amos getting his break in international rugby, Monmouth School could be represented on the pitch as well, by referee Wayne Barnes and commentator Eddie Butler, both Old Monmothians, in future Wales games.
