CRICKETER Ben Davies has been picked for the Gwent Under 10 county squad.
The all-rounder is a member of Monmouth Cricket Club's junior section and played at under 9 and under 11 level last season.
He is the son of former Monmouth first-team wicketkeeper Jonathan Davies, who is helping Ian Morgan run the club's under 11 side this summer.
Monmouth have just re-joined the Monmouthshire Building Society Youth League.
Ben was among a group of young players from the club who had been involved in winter coaching with Gwent.
Monmouth's vice-chairman, Ian Morgan, said he was delighted that Ben, aged 10, had been picked for the county squad.
"Ben is a bright prospect with a great attitude and is someone who listens, is willing to learn and works very hard at his game," said Morgan.
"He kept wicket for most of our under 11 season last year and showed no fear when he opened the batting. He is also a very promising left-arm bower."
Morgan, David Teague and, more recently, Matt Jones are members of Monmouth Cricket Club who have gained representative youth honours with Wales.
Morgan added: "We moved Monmouth Cricket Club back into the Welsh cricket structure this year to give our young players a chance to be recognised by Gwent and, hopefully, Wales.
"We're thrilled that Ben has been spotted. We believe that Ben will be among many Monmouth youth players to be noticed by Gwent Young Cricketers."
Monmouth Cricket Club will be running junior sides at under 9, under 11, under 13 and under 15 levels this summer.
Registration for those wanting to play junior cricket for Monmouth this year takes place on Wednesday 18th April at 6pm at the Sports Ground.
