SIR,
As another busy year draws to a close, I would like to thank the Monmouthshire Beacon for the wonderful support given to us in publicising our weekly fundraising events, monthly Adoption Days and numerous special features.
Without publicity, the branch could not continue to help the many hundreds of people who ring our helpline annually and the huge number of unwanted cats in our area and beyond.
We are very grateful to the kind cat lovers who have adopted 250 cats and kittens and given them a second chance of a happy life; all those who have taken time to attend our events and helped to raise funds for food, litter and the huge veterinary bills that we incur; and everyone who has generously donated money, food, bric-a-brac, bedding, prizes and refreshments.
This has been a particularly difficult year, due to the increasing numbers of unwanted and abandoned cats and kittens and a sharp decline in the number of homes offered to our cats, largely due to the uncertain financial climate.
We are still receiving reports of large numbers of feral cats and are doing our best to trap and neuter as many as possible to help reduce colony sizes in the future.
There are many more cats out there needing our help and I hope that your support, so appreciated in the past, will continue, so that they may have a brighter future.
If you would like to help in any way, please ring us on 0845 371 2747. For neutering vouchers only, please ring 01495 772181.
Thank you so much for any contribution you have made and a Merry Christmas from us all.
Loretta Kedward,
(Gwent Cats Protection)
