MADAM,

The pollution levels at the play area on Chippenham Mead after a recent monitoring showed the pollution level below the recommended safety level because of moving traffic on the A40.

Pollution from Waitrose car park with vehicles queuing is greater, if children playing at the play area on the Mead are at risk from vehicular fumes, “only being there for a few hours a week” why are the Monmouth boys school allowing their children and young people to study and congregate at this area?

And finally, this play area has been in situ for more than 50 years, I would ask any person who has suffered in any way from the so-called effect of the A40 over the last 50 years to write to the Beacon with proof. There is not money available for a new relocated play area “especially on the Mead,” only for refurbishment. Waitrose Monmouth are in favour of a move because it will be better for their customers, but no financial support.

Monmouth School has at present not given any reasons for their support of the move, you can make your own conclusions. Although I was asked to make an appointment to see the bursar, but all I needed was two simple answers: why and how they supported the move?

Leave the Mead alone.
