VAUXHALL Bridge has finally been lifted this morning (February 26) after long awaited anticipation following the failure of the attempted move a few weeks ago.
The bridge has been lifted via crane onto a scaffolding structure for the repair works to take place. It was originally due to be lifted on February 10 but due to the weight of the bridge it was rescheduled to a later date.
The Inglis bridge in Monmouth was built by the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers in 1931 and it provided a simple access route to its training ground on Vauxhall Fields whilst being a focal point for many residents of the Monmouth community.
