THE Monmouth community has raised over £10,000 in aid of getting the Bridges Community Centre back up and running after Storm Claudia.
Two local organisations – Monmouthshire Floral Society and Monmouth u3a together have raised more than £10,000 in support of the charity’s work across the county.
The Monmouth Floral Society is a local group which promotes the art of flower arranging through workshops, meeting and demonstrations and the u3a is a UK- wide movement of locally- run groups where the community can explore new idea and skills.
Monmouthshire Floral Society presented a donation of £302, after selecting Bridges Centre as their charity of the year. Members chose to support the charity in recognition of the services it provides to local people experiencing loneliness, hardship, and social isolation.
Following the generous fundraising, Monmouth’s u3a raised £9,753 through a range of fundraising activities.
The activities included proceedings from their pre- Christmas rock concerts performed by local band U3, individual donations to the Bridges food appeal, and sponsorship raised by members who took part in the recent Walk 4 Bridges event.
Ben Ford from Bridges Community Centre, said: “We are incredibly grateful to both Monmouthshire Floral Society and Monmouth u3a for their generosity and commitment. These donations represent not just financial support, but genuine belief in the work we do and the people we serve. Community- led fundraising like this makes a real and tangible difference.”
Funds raised will help support Bridge’s Centre’s wellbeing services, volunteer-led projects and practical support for individuals and families across Monmouthshire.
The community centre offers a range of services, including: wellbeing services, regular groups and classes and special events.
The community centre extends its appreciation and gratitude to everyone involved in organising, performing, walking, donating, and supporting these efforts.
