The children at Whitchurch Whizzkids Pre-School Playgroup were really excited on Friday, February 1st when Whitchurch Fire fighters visited the pre- school in their fire engine. Fire fighter Mark Andrews, who has a child at the Pre-School spoke to the children firstly about smoke alarms and the importance of having them fitted in the home. The children then role played a scenario with children pretending to be a mum and a child and what to do when the smoke alarm goes off. Playleader Tracy and assistant Michelle where then dressed up in fire fighter uniforms before taking the children outside to experience the fire engine. Halee jumped into the driver's seat whilst other children jumped in the back to view the equipment and walkie talkies were used to speak to Michelle across the car park. The flashing blue lights were put on and the hoses unrolled, each child was then able to have a go with the hose aiming it at a cone, this was extremely enjoyable with the children laughing excitedly. Whizzkids have recently been celebrating about their recent Good Ofsted report, comments such as "children benefit from a stimulating and interesting environment in which they are happy, content and secure. Younger children mix well with older, more able children and they access a wide range of activities throughout the session. They are busy and occupied with favourite activities including role play, painting and dancing. They enjoy good relationships with staff and other children and are developing their independence and confidence well."
