Last Sunday the Monmouth Warriors (U13's) entertained Bromyard. Whilst the pitch was heavy underfoot the game was played in blustery but rain free conditions.

The Warriors went on the attack from the start with the pack rampaging forward to encamp in the Bromyard 22. However despite the power play of forwards Sean McMahon, Harry Miles and Nico McCord the Warriors were held up by desperate defending by Bromyard. Nevertheless the Warriors kept pounding away at the visitors line and eventually prop Andrew Morgan, with support from Dan Edwards, drove over for the first try of the game.

The phase of play which led to their second try came straight from the training ground and epitomised all that is good about the Warriors style of play. The back row of Joe Bezani, Will Korb and Joe Walters set up the ruck, quick ball ensued and sublime passing and handling between Max Davies, Jacob Webley and Dan Dunmore enabled Max Senior to stride over for an outstanding try.

As the match progressed Bromyard came more into the game but, when called upon to defend their line the tackling of backs Will Fraser, Ben Zorab and Hamish Lindsay was equal to the task. Having weathered this attacking period of play by Bromyard the Warriors soon took play back into their opponents 22. Further tries by Dan Dunmore and Max Senior gave the Warriors a comfortable 22 – 0 lead at half time. Wholesale changes were made by the Warriors to enable the whole squad to participate in the game.

The second half was a much more even affair although the Warriors still held the upper hand in territorial advantage. Forwards Dan Musselbrook, Jonathan Clewes, Josh Carpenter and James Hall ensured that the momentum of the first half continued and were rewarded when Andrew Morgan, after selling an outrageous dummy to the covering defence, went over for his second try. Soon after Jacob Webley pounced on a loose ball in the Bromyard goal area to score an opportunist try.

To their credit Bromyard never gave up and in the last ten minutes of play they pinned the home side back in their 22 and it needed some determined tackling by Ieuan Gale and Henry Orchart assisted by newcomer Pete Saran to keep them out.

However Bromyard were not to be denied and in the closing minutes they forced their way over for a well deserved try. The final score was 32 – 5 to the Warriors.

Coach Paul Bezani and Team Manager Steve Miles highlighted the selflessness of all the players in furtherance of the team effort allied to their support play. Man of the Match awards went to Andrew Morgan and Dan Dunmore.
