Local shops and event organisers are urged to be aware of counterfeit 20-pound notes circulating in the local area.

Over the weekend there has been an exchange of counterfeits at a local event, with members of the community being encouraged to keep an eye out for the fake bank notes, which could still be circulating around Monmouth and the surrounding areas.

Things to be aware of include the serial number, which appears to be the exact same on multiple notes, the hologram is missing the number ‘20’ digits, and the note is a slightly darker purple than normal.

Anyone who thinks they might have fake bank notes should hand them into a police station or call 101 and should keep the note as evidence.
