Graham Waite and co-driver Gill Cotton put in another giant-killing performance in the unique Volvo Amazon on last weekend's Trackrod Historic Cup, the final round of the Dunlop/ Wanago Historic Championship, to finish second overall, first in class in the Historic section.

Waite, who battled all day with the mighty V8 Sunbeam Tiger of Jonathan Gale in the ultra-fast Yorkshire forests, led by just one second going into the final 16-mile test but Gale was just three seconds quicker to take victory.

The result saw Waite, who is a big favourite with spectators for his ever-sideways style, and Cotton win the class in the championship and claim second overall in the Waterend Gravel Cup.

Joining them in Yorkshire were Simon Tysoe and Cliff Simmons in the RS1800, who found the conditions extremely slippery but had a trouble-free run to ninth overall in the classic section.
