SIR, The Beacon's headline: 'New race to bring hundreds into Usk', (Wednesday 16th April), for a brief moment raised the vision of a change in the housing plans for the LDP from MCC's planning department, with Usk set to raise its contribution of 20 houses, and possibly Monmouth losing some from its 1000 allocation. But it was not to be; rather all about getting down and dirty in the mud with MP David Davies, a banker and about 700 others, all getting very wet. What a silly mistake for me to make. David himself did seem to get stuck in the mud when he debated the issue of climate change at St Mary's Priory on Monday 14th April, as part of the Wales We Want conversation with the public. Having listened to a detailed and scholarly address by Professor James Scourse, marine geology director, Climate Change Consortium of Wales, Mr Davies stated that his final position was that he had not heard anything that evening to change his own mind regarding the unproven and alarmist findings of the IPCC, published recently. His summing up was received with almost unbelievable silence. Jaw dropping and depressing. Well, we may all be getting a lot wetter and muddier in the future, and you may not have to travel as far as Usk to enjoy it, Mr Davies. Michael Jones (Wonastow Road)
