MUSICIAN Colin Tully who worked as a music teacher in Monmouthshire has died at home. Colin’s wife Julia Tully said she has had many tributes paid to her late husband who has recently written a book about his musical memoirs.
As well as working as a music teacher he also taught the Alexander Technique. He had been living in Monmouth for nearly 20 years and would have been a familiar sight to many people as he took his pupils out to busk around Church Street raising money for charity. Colin was also known as a talented musician who performed regularly with his band from Bristol Sensorium and later with accomplished local musicians in Nuadha Quartet. Colin was born and educated in Glasgow. He performed with bands such as Cado Belle and John Martyn but is perhaps best remembered for writing and performing the music score for Bill Forsyth’s film Gregory’s Girl which won many awards and became something of a cult film in the 1980s. Whilst living in Ireland, Colin was invited to accompany Johnny Logan on saxophone for Ireland’s entry into the 1980 Eurovision Song contest. They performed Shay Healey’s song ’What’s Another Year’ which went on to win the contest.Says Julia: ’’In the last two years Colin has been writing a book about his musical memoirs which is called Earworm. ’’This has recently been published and is available on Amazon.’’There have been obituaries for Colin in The Guardian online as well as in newspapers such as The Telegraph, The Scottish Times and the Herald. There is also a substantial amount of footage of Colin performing on YouTube. Colin was a very gentle and modest man and we have been very touched by all the tributes made to him.’’
