Tributes have been pouring in for the young Osbaston School pupil who lost his life in a road collision last Monday night.
Seven-year-old Samuel Barker was hit by a school bus as he was dropped off close to Manson Lane last Monday night, 13th January.
His parents, Catherine and James, have drawn comfort from words he wrote only last year and which have come to be known as Samuel’s Psalm.
He wrote about how much he loved Jesus and God "because they look after me and are nice to me".
As committed Christians, the family have drawn strength from their faith and the minister of their church in Monk Street, Rev Jonathan Greaves said they would be supporting the family in practical ways as well as emotional support.
"We have known Samuel since he was little because he has grown up in Monmouth Baptist Church and was an active member of the Sunday School," said Jonathan.
"He was full of life and energy and loved playing games, singing and learning about Jesus. Even at the age of seven Samuel had a faith of his own which can be seen from the words he wrote in "Samuel’s Psalm" which is available through the church. "We loved him, the same way they have done," he added.
A Justgiving page has been set up by friends in Samuel’s memory so the community can show their support following the tragic incident. Suggested plans are for a memorial at Osbaston school such as a bible garden with a new bench and climbing frame.
The family paid tribute saying he was always on the move, "a happy active child who loved toy cars, climbing trees, the great outdoors and especially skiing and ski lifts!"
There is also a Book of Condolence available for anyone to sign at Osbaston School reception from 9am to 9.30am and 3.20pm to 4pm every day this week. Then it will be at Monmouth Baptist Church on Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 12-4pm or by appointment. A date for a community memorial service at Monmouth Baptist Church will be announced soon
The 45-year-old bus driver arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving has since been released.
