A call for an urgent review on the state of the roads around Monmouth has been made after concern over the number of dangerous potholes around the town.
Cllr Martin Newell has asked for a meeting with a highways officer following the deterioration of roads which are causing “huge problems” and damage to some cars.
Cllr Newell is a town and county councillor for the Town ward in Monmouth and has highlighted the “angst and frustration amongst residents and commuters” over a number of danger areas.
He includes Priory Street where huge potholes (pictured) have developed causing damage to vehicles.
“The dual carriageway and Dixton Roundabout are in a dreadful state and need urgent attention. Dixton Road is also in a very poor condition leading to the main roundabout on the A40.
“The road from the Leisure centre also needs a complete resurface up to the Nags Head roundabout.”
He went on to say that the area by Kings Fee stores is a “disgrace”.
“The road has deteriorated so much that vehicles visiting the local shop are flicking debris onto residents cars over a stretch of around 100 metres.
He told the Beacon: “Due to the huge amount of potholes and damaged areas of road I feel a meeting with MCC highway officers is needed to conduct a full and detailed survey of the roads in my Monmouth Town Ward and throughout the wider town and county.”
