AN inquest into the death of a 41-year-old man who was found unresponsive outside his Monmouth flat has been opened by the Gwent Coroner.

Michael Farr was discovered beside the Church Street town centre property after a flatmate saw his belongings on the window sill in the kitchen above on Monday evening, July 13.

The hearing was told it was thought he had suffered traumatic injuries, but the cause of death is still being investigated.

Emergency responders were called to the property around 6pm, but Mr Farr was pronounced dead by paramedics.

Pub goers at the nearby Punch House and passers-by saw a large police and ambulance presence at the Agincourt Square entrance to Church Street, with part of the street cordoned off.

Gwent Police say they are not treating the death as suspicious and the inquest was adjourned to April 27, 2027.

Mr Farr, whose funeral was held at the Forest Crematorium on Friday, August 7, followed by a celebration of his life at the Riverside pub, was a well known master builder and pool player in the town.

Friend Steve Porter helped organise a tribute fundraiser that raised almost £3,000 in his memory.

He said: "If you knew Mike, you already know Monmouth lost an absolute legend – and we lost him so suddenly.

"Mike was a master craftsman – for every pound he charged you, he was worth two.

"A legend on the green baize, a pool player to be seriously reckoned with.

"He was old school to the core straight talking, hard working, and don’t wind him up the wrong way

"He was always the heart of the party, full of banter, fun, a cheeky grin and a laugh that always filled the room.

"The Riverside will never be the same without him."

Monmouth & District Pool League also posted after his death: "Very sad to hear that Mike Farr has passed away. The League wont be the same without you. Rest In Peace Mike."
