AS THE BEACON went to press on Tuesday, it was
announced that Monmouth's town clerk, Dr John
Evans, had resigned with immediate effect.
Dr Evans, who lives in Rhymney, took up the post on
4th January. He gave "personal circumstances and
travel difficulties" as the reasons for his resignation.
Speaking to the Beacon, Councillor Bob Hayward
said the Town Council would do everything necessary
to keep the council offices functioning as normal,
pending the recruitment of a new, full-time clerk.
He also asked members of the public to bear with the
council in the interim, and apologised in advance for
any inconvenience.
