The Red Hill fishery near Monmouth hosted this year's WFA National Team Championships, which featured the cream of Welsh anglers.

The weather was hot and so was the action as the teams of five battled it out with all competitors catching well – mainly carp – on a variety of methods.

There were many quality teams competing, in particular the highly fancied Sirhowy side that featured several Red Hill venue experts.

But it was the powerful Cwmbran Nobblers quintet of Bob Giles, Rob Wiltshire, Ian Exall, Rob Skillet and Phil Weaver that deservedly won on the day, with Bob Giles also taking the individual title.

Bob drew peg two on the prolific Sophie's pool and took sizeable carp throughout fishing pellet on the long pole shallow at 12 metres.

His catch was boosted in the dying minutes with two fish, both in the region of 12lbs. It was those two late fish that edged out runner-up Tony Summers, who had enjoyed a terrific battle with Rob Wiltshire on Molly's pool.
