MONMOUTH batsman Adam Roberts struck 133 for the Clytha Arms in their 62-run win over the town club in a friendly last Sunday. Roberts, starring for the pub team, was a thorn in Monmouth's side and inspired the hosts to a challenging 244-3 from their allotted 35 overs. His innings included 18 fours and three sixes, before falling to former Monmouth Sunday skipper Rick Parkes (1-35). Roberts, who is a popular figure in Monmouth's Second team, departed with more than 200 runs on the board for the hosts. He was supported by Clytha dup T Norris (52 not out) and B Matthews (23). Jordan Charles, Dan Risk and Simon Docking all held good catches and Tej Saran kept tidily behind the stumps. Despite the efforts of Jon Despontin, Docking, skipper Jonathan Jones, Dave Wilding, Richard Shaw and the returning Martin Hancocks, only vice- captain Charles (1-15) and Risk (1-19) had further success with the ball. Monmouth replied at a steady pace and remained in the hunt until the mid-way stages before they were eventually dismissed for 182. Dave Wilding (67) took the honours for Monmouth, while only Despontin (20), Docking (17), Shaw (12) and Risk (10) were the other visiting batsmen to reach double figures. The match balls were sponsored by DS Smith Tri-Wall Ltd and Nigel Morris Cleaning Ltd.
