TINTERN Abbey and the surrounding Wye Valley have been named among Wales' favourite places for dog walks in new research by Animal Friends Pet Insurance.

The Monmouthshire beauty spot ranked seventh in a survey of Welsh dog owners and features in the company's new Ultimate UK Dog Walks interactive map, which highlights 25 popular routes across the UK.

The research, released for the summer holidays, found 71 per cent of Welsh dog owners said walking their dog was one of the best parts of their day, while 98 per cent said their dog's enjoyment was just as important as their own when choosing a route.

The map also includes practical advice on terrain, accessibility, livestock, water safety and seasonal considerations to help owners plan safe days out.
