Year two pupils at Thornwell Primary School got a first glimpse of their new school building last Friday (21st February).
Pupils were shown around their future classrooms which have been designed to fit in with 21st Century School standards.
The infants building burnt down following the outbreak of a fire in June 2011.
It is hoped the new building will be finished before the Easter holidays which would give the children one term in their new school classrooms before they break up for summer.
Headteacher of Thornwell Primary School, Tim Appleby, said: "The building of the new school is going extremely well.
"The children have been heavily involved in the process and have learnt a lot from the work taking place here.
"We've had a visit from mascot Ivor Goodsite, to engage with children about safety at the site. The children also learnt about the job of a builder in assembly."
Councillor Liz Hackett-Pain, cabinet member for children and young peoples services, said: "This is really exciting as the new block will be one of the UK's most modern school buildings and will be equipped with the latest teaching technology.
"All of this with such brilliant teachers. I know that the pupils really enjoyed Friday's visit and that we're all looking forward to the new building opening and a new chapter in the school's life beginning."
