SIR,

On Friday 4th March our regiment, The Royal Welsh, was given the honour of the Freedom of Monmouthshire and a parade was held on the streets of Monmouth.

On behalf of all the officers and soldiers on parade I wish to thank all the good folk who showed their appreciation in such a powerful way.

It was an amazing sight seeing the crowds on both sides of Monnow Street and it bore testament to the support that the people of the town and surrounding county have for our soldiers.

This, the soldiers value and they gain much reassurance from it.

Everyone was wonderfully patient, even though proceedings had been delayed by some 25 minutes, and it was clearly such a happy occasion. We are proud to have such a connection with the county of Monmouthshire and its people.

Tim Major (Retd) TP Wheadon

(Assistant Regimental Secretary – RHQ The Royal Welsh)
