A GROUP of teenagers are taking on a 120-mile walk along the South West Coastal Path to raise money for cancer research.

Tom, Raymond, Dash, Ruben, Monty, Joe and Casper are completing this challenge after seeing family members battle cancer and experiencing its impact. The teenagers will embark on their journey on July 29, starting in Bude and walking to Land’s End. They hope to complete the route in nine nights and ten days.

Tom’s mum died from cancer in 2020, just a week before the first lockdown, while Joe’s mother died from cancer in 2018.

The group previously took on a fundraising challenge last summer, canoeing 90 miles down the river Wye from Glasbury, near Hay-on-Wye, through Hereford, Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, before finishing near Chepstow at Brockweir. They completed the journey in six days and raised more than £5,000 for a life-changing charity hitting way above their initial target of £1,000.

This summer, the group is taking on an even bigger challenge, hoping to raise as much money as possible to support Cancer Research and help improve the lives of families affected by the disease.

Cancer Research is the world’s largest independent cancer research charity, who fund scientists, doctors, and nurses to prevent, diagnose, and treat over 200 types of cancer. The different types of things they do is fund scientific research to find causes, prevention and detention and cures for cancer, clinical trials, operating a nurse helpline whilst also running campaigns to raise public awareness.

Through their determination and teamwork, the group hopes to make a difference while showing the impact they can make in the community.

Here is more information about their GoFund me as they get ready to embark on their journey later this month.
