A LOCAL talent has been named as a finalist in the GoHenry “Dream Big” competition.

Miles, aged 12 has been selected as a finalist in this competition which is an annual event that celebrates the ideas, creativity, and ambition of young people aged 6-18 across the UK.

Miles was recognised in the Talent category for his musical achievement as aTrumpet player.

He is hoping to be one of the 26 overall winners across the UK. Nine winners will be selected from each nation: Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland with each winner receiving a £1,000 share of a total £36,000 prize pot.

Miles, said: “I’m really excited to be chosen as a Finalist. Representing Wales in such an honour. My big bream is to take my trumpet playing to the next level. If I win, I’d use the prize money to attend The Brass Academy. I’d get the chance to work with the Lead Trumpet player from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and that would be so awesome.

Miles’s parents, Mark and Alycia, said: “We are so very proud of all that Miles has achieved in his music, and so very grateful for the support and encouragement he has had from his music teachers and the wonderful Music Department at school.”

There will be one public vote winner, one judge’s winner selected by Olympic runner Eilish McColgan, Olympian and TV personality Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, ballroom dancer Amy Dowden MBE and radio presenter Dean McCullough and one GoHenry winner, selected by GoHenry Founder Louise Hill and Dream Big ambassador Simon Squibb. In each category winners will be chosen based on creativity, originality and impact.

Voting closes on July 29 at 23.59pm and winners will be announced later in August.
