THOUSANDS of show-goers descended on Monmouth over the weekend for the annual Monmouthshire Show.

Traditionally held on the last Thursday in August, this year was the first time the show was held on its new date of the first Saturday in July. The weather played it’s part, with glorious sunshine in the afternoon encouraging the crowds to support the show.

On the day there was a long-list of action-packed events, which included the grand parade of livestock, a family dog show, vintage vehicles, show jumping, scurry racing and the popular ‘Mounted Games’.

The show was also host to the Welsh Tug of War Championships, which saw 22 teams competing over the course of the day.

David Probert, committee chairman, said the day was “a wonderful first Saturday for Monmouthshire Show.”

Harold Johns, show president for 2017 said the day had been absolutely excellent. “What a beautiful day we had,” he said. “Looking around we can see a lot of people, I think it’s good to bring in a lot of people out of the town to see the way we produce our food and goods, the Saturday was a very good idea.”
