Monmouth Youth travelled to Newport for its latest league match, knowing they would have a tough afternoon against the home team Pill Harriers. It was a lovely sunny afternoon, but a pitch that was wet, heavy with standing water in places, making running rugby difficult.

Pill kicked off, and Monmouth were immediately on the move attacking the right side with good handling, but the next phase needed to be kicked rather than trying to run again, Monmouth conceded a penalty, which was kicked and after two minutes Pill led three to nil.

Monmouth immediately responded, with a good spell of sustained pressure in the Pill '22', with attacks up the middle of the field as well as going out wide through good handling, and also cross-field kicks.
