The skies over the Rolls Golf Club were filled with the evocative sight of a Rolls Royce-powered Spitfire last week as test pilot for Rolls Royce Phil O'Dell flew one of the last remaining examples of this much-loved Second World War fighter aircraft.
The appearance heralded the completion of the restoration project on the 1830s clock tower on the Hendre mansion house, once the childhood home of Charles Stewart Rolls, co-founder of Rolls-Royce, and is now the clubhouse of the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club.
Invited guests and those lucky enough to be playing a round of golf were treated to a five-minute aerial display by the Second World War plane last Thursday (5th May).
