SOUTH Wales and Fire and Rescue Service has thanked local people who have supported them through such a heartbreaking time.

Firefighter Dean Palmer who works at Monmouth , said: “I work for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and we at Monmouth Fire Station just wanted to say a big thank you to the local community who have fed us and kept our spirits up with their generosity over the last couple of days.

“As we are all Monmouth locals, we have also been affected by the floods but have managed to get to work and work tirelessly over the weekend.

“We have our drill tonight from 6.30 until 8.30 so if anybody wants to pop in to say hello we are at the station for the evening.

“We are still recruiting for our station too so it would be a great time for people who would have an interest in joining come down to see us.
