Sir,

I was really disappointed to hear that plans to shelve the improvement plans for Monnow Street.

When both my children were young I only ever shopped on one side of the street at a time, I know it sounds mad but crossing the street was always such a pain with young children, and even harder with a pram, that I would avoid it like the plague.

I once (having neglected to strap my two-year-old into the pushchair) got the wheel of my buggy stuck while striving to get off the awkward pavements on Agincourt Square and rather unfortunately up-ended my daughter into the road.

Needless to say she was very upset to find herself face down on the tarmac, but at least there wasn't a car coming.

I have also seen disabled and blind residents up that end of town, struggling to manoeuvre themselves across the street.

It really is a shame but I am never surprised when I see another shop close on the high street as I feel it must be very difficult for them to encourage people through their doors when being a pedestrian in Monmouth town is no easy feat.

Shopping is a much easier and relaxed affair in nearby Abergavenny, or even Cwmbran (there is even free parking) so why bother shopping here?
