SIR,

What a fantastic community atmosphere there was in Monnow Street last Friday (25th May), as my little girl and I found a spot and waited with the hundreds of other people that had come out to enjoy the morning waiting for the arrival of the Olympic torch.

The entourage steadily passed before us and succeeded in building the crowd up for the arrival of the torch. How fab to see Trellech Primary School perform their cover of 'On a Rainbow', their relentless enthusiasm went a long way to enhancing the carnival atmosphere.

What a shame then that the county council decided that Cinderhill Street would be an appropriate viewing spot for the two largest schools in our town, Overmonnow Primary and Monmouth Comprehensive, an area which was inaccessible to the majority of the torch entourage.

Why couldn't they have been accommodated in Monnow Street where the party was happening and where they could have had the opportunity of sharing the same experience as everyone else there?

All of our schools should have been given prime viewing spots and not just a selection.
