Residents have again called for measures to improve parking in Goldwire Lane.

At a meeting last Friday (31st August), residents met with town councillors Gerry Bright and John Fletcher, town and county councillor Sue White and MP David Davies.

The amount of cars parked in the street, particularly on street corners, causes traffic problems and makes it difficult for emergency vehicles to access both private properties and residential homes.

PCSO Joe Facchiano said the road was difficult to police.

"The parking is a problem but unless I can prove to a court that a car is preventing others from getting past, there is little I can do," he said.

"The police can only do something if there is clear signage and lines on the road.

"There is a lack of street orders on the road, but it wouldn't take much to change the road layout with some yellow lines and parking bays.

"It would also be helpful to introduce a residents' parking scheme, using just some of the green space along the road.

"The PACT (Police and Communities Together) priorities for Overmonnow are dog fouling, litter dropping and the parking on Goldwire Lane."

Councillor White and Monmouth MP Mr Davies said they would chase up Monmouthshire Highways, who were invited to the meeting but did not attend.

"We need to meet with officers, the relevant officers, to move this on," said Cllr White.

Residents are hoping for an update at the next PACT meeting, scheduled for Wednesday 14th November at Homeforge in Goldwire Lane.
