A LANE linking Monmouth to Welsh Newton and Tregate is closed to through traffic while repairs take place on a section of road and its supporting bank damaged by a timber lorry shedding part of its load.

A trailer being pulled by the lorry out of the Buckholt Woods parking area toppled over a laneside bank, tipping its load into a private garden below, smashing the hedge and damaging the side of the road, which has been partly cordoned off since the accident last February.

The work, which is reported to be costing tens of thousands of pounds, is taking place 1.5 miles up the lane from the Hereford Road turn-off beside the woods parking area.
Signs saying the road has been closed and signalling a diversion through the Buckholt on the A466 to Welsh Newton are in place at both ends of the two-mile long lane, but it is accessible from Monmouth as far as the Old Shop 1.3 miles up the lane while roadworkers are on site.
