The Royal Monmouthshire, Royal Engineers, (Militia) (RMonRE M) opened their doors to the public last Saturday (17th May) as part of a national recruitment campaign. Potential recruits had the chance to enjoy the obstacle course and target shooting, as well as communications and the chance to try their hand with an excavator. Lance-Corporal Nash from Wyesham, pictured left, wore full combat fatigues for the day and carried an Afghanistan theatre entry level SA80 A2, it has the picatinney rail system and front grip. The sighting system mounted on the gun is a day sight which has the CQB, the close quarter battle sight, used for house clearances. Sergeant Paul Firth, from Monmouth was on hand to demonstrate a communications station, formerly known as signals. Mine-clearance techniques were demonstrated by Lance-Corporal Thomas who is with the Territorial Army from Swansea.
