A GARDEN centre has been given the go-ahead to expand its toilets which will result in in it having to relocate its ornamental carp pond.
Raglan Garden Centre has been granted planning permission for the extension on a paved area currently covered by a canopy. The single storey extension, with external walls finished in anthracite horizontal boarding with grey aluminium doors, will increase the current toilet provision at the centre and for its Sugar Loaf Restaurant.
The area is currently used for storing bags of plant compost as well as being the home to the ornamental fish pond which would be relocated.
The toilets will connect with an existing package treatment plant and drainage system and environmental regulator Natural Resources Wales said it was satisfied it is unlikely to have a significant impact on the river Usk special area of conservation.
Three trees will also be planted at the garden centre site as a biodiversity enhancement which forms a condition of the planning permission granted by Monmouthshire County Council.
Other plans greenlighted this week include planning permission to develop 4 residential dwellings within the site footprint of The Old Quarry West End Undy Monmouthshire . It is expected that the current land will be cleared, buildings on site to be demolished and the boundary rock faces to be altered via ivy vegetation clearance and potential installation of nettng for safety.
Planning permission was granted providing no development shall take place until the applicant has secured agreement for a written scheme of historic environment mitigation which has been submitted by the applicant and approved by the local planning authority to identify and record any features of archaeological interest discovered during the works, in order to mitigate the impact of the works on the archaeological resource.
