Simon Boyle, the Lord Lieutenant of Gwent, has urged local residents to nominate voluntary groups for the opportunity to be awarded with The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service 2015. The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work in their communities. The awards were created in 2002 to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee and winners are announced each year on 2 June – the anniversary of the Queen's Coronation. Nominations for 2015 close on 30 September 2014. Simon Boyle said: "Over the last year I have been honoured to meet hundreds of inspiring people in the local community who give thousands of hours of their free time to voluntary groups. "If you know of a voluntary group that makes a difference in the area where you live please nominate them for a Queen's Award for Voluntary Service." Any group of two or more people that has participated in voluntary work for more than three years can be nominated for the award.
