MONMOUTH Day Nursery has almost completed their refurbishments following being completely swept under by the flooding last November.
The nursery was among many other buildings in Monmouth which was completely flooded after Storm Claudia. After several months of time and patience of trying to get the nursery restored it is slowly making progress.
The entire downstairs of the preschool and garden was completely wiped out, with the entirety of the lower levels of the building having to be stripped out for drying works with nothing able to be salvaged.
Their insurance claims are still ongoing but unfortunately due to the contents in the garden out in the open they were unable to get those covered.
A spokesperson from Monmouth Day Nursery, Debi Coggins, said: “We have had some absolutely fantastic local traders who have worked tirelessly, pulling long days and working throughout their weekends to get us back on our feet. We are eternally grateful for all they have done to help us out in this situation.”
Soon after the flooding in November, they put together a toy appeal amongst Caerwent Day Nursery and Mathern Day Nursery. The toy drive was a huge success after receiving large amounts of support from people including a family who arrived in a people carrier to deliver lots of toys from themselves and their neighbours and friends.
The toys were then donated to Monmouth Aid to victims of the the Storm Claudia flooding last November.
Monmouth Day Nursery was set up by Kane Gore and has been in Monmouth since 2016. The nursery supports three main charities, including:
MacMillan Cancer support, Children In Need and Bridges Community Centre. They support these charities by involving the staff, children and parents by making cakes and biscuits to sell whilst also dressing up.
