SIR,
I congratulate the Head Teacher at Monmouth Comprehensive for setting the record straight on the petty issues raised by students over the past few weeks.
As someone who has nothing to do with the school, I have been quite amused by the attitude of what is (hopefully) a small number of students and the question "Who do they think they are?" has come to my mind many times.
Hopefully, the students concerned will have been present when the delegation of MPs from Kenya were discussing education with the students during a recent visit.
I am sure that students from Kenya have far more important matters to worry about than parking barriers, coffee machines, common rooms or (shock horror) allegedly disappearing newspapers.
I would advise the students concerned to get real. They should make a mature decision to discuss issues face to face with ther Head Teacher.
The way to get change is to debate, negotiate and discuss, not write immature and petty anonymous letters to a newspaper. Perhaps, when they have done this, they will be able to concentrate their efforts on more valuable and worthwhile projects that bring positive, not harmful publicity to their school.
When they discuss things with their Head Teacher they should be mindful of the fact that she has to look at the bigger picture when making decisions and that they may not always be able to get their own way.
