Protected woodland in Chepstow has been sold pending contract after first going on the market in the summer.
The woodland, located between Piercefield Park at Chepstow and the River Wye, was for sale with Knight Frank estate agents for £750,000.
The land extends from behind the historic Piercefield mansion, not included in the sale, and along the river in a dogsleg shape. There are five ancient monuments to be protected in the woods. These include ancient camps 18th century follies, and sites created at the birth of the Wye Valley Walk.
Upon the land there are also Tree Preservation Orders (TPO), and protection for Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Access to the woods can only be gained from the A466 Monmouth to Chepstow road or a right of way through the main entrance to Chepstow Racecourse
It is not yet known what the prospective buyer intends to do with the land.
