SIR,

During this week the two vicars of the Borders Group, Kevin Cecil and Simon Mondon, will be paddling a canoe from the Bishop's Palace in Hereford to Monmouth.

In Rev Cecil's words, 'Why are we doing this? Well, it could be easy for us to stay within the safe confines of a dull but secure life.

'Recent events have shown us that we may be fooling ourselves to think that we are in control of the world in which we live.

'The plan, if it can be called a plan, is just to put a signpost down to where we hope God is taking us on the next exciting stage in our life together in the Borders Group.'

On Sunday 18th September, the parishes will welcome back the two intrepid paddlers at St Dubricius Church, Whitchurch, from 4 pm.

We welcome anyone who wants to join us; there will be a short film for children and the Wyedean Gospel Choir will be entertaining us.

Tea will be available afterwards.
