Rotary Monmouth are unable to go around the town with Santa’s sleigh this year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

So members are trying to spread a little cheer in the community by offering their Tree of Light to record messages of love, celebration, or bereavement which local residents can request to be posted on the tree.

The posting of a message is entirely free.

Rotary is very grateful for the Town Council’s approval, to use the Christmas tree that has been put up outside the Shire Hall in Agincourt Square, also to Monmouthshire County Council and staff who have given permission for the event in these challenging times.

There are two ways of having a message posted on the tree.

On Saturday, December 12 and Saturday December 19, through to Thursday December 24, from 10am until 4pm the Rotary display unit adjacent to the tree will be manned by Rotarians to facilitate the writing of a message and they will tie your message to the tree.

Alternatively, you can visit www.rotarymonmouth.com where a message can be written which will be transcribed onto one of our wooden message tags and posted on the tree by Rotarians.

This service is free but should anyone feel that they would like to make a donation to mark a bereavement or celebration then our website contains a link to Virgin Just Giving. Donations made this way will be given by Rotary Monmouth to local causes. You may prefer to donate to your own specific charity via their website.

It is proposed to create a register of all messages received. With the permission of the message writer this register will be accessible through our website.
