SIR,

The recent correspondence on the local ambulance service has indicated that the service is not up to the standard required by the local community.

The effect on the people involved in the delays was obviously distressing and unacceptable and, as such, rightly open to public criticism.

However, my wife and I feel that it is equally important to identify the positive side of the work done by the ambulance personnel who, in our case, were excellent.

My wife suffered a brain haemorrhage at midday, the motor cyclist first-aider arrived 10 minutes after the 999 call closely followed the ambulance crew, who delivered her safely into the equally expert hands of the Nevil Hall hospital staff.
