SIR, I daresay that everything Mr Clarke quotes regarding the assurances for free parking in the Waitrose car park is true. But, my recollection is that there was always the proviso that should Monmouthshire County Council impose parking charges in its car parks then Waitrose would be free to do likewise. Well, we have paid to park in the council's car parks for many years now. It makes no sense that Waitrose should be a free car park for all in this changed situation. Personally, I'm very pleased that there is now plenty of space in the Waitrose car park for when I wish to shop there. Vivien Mitchell (Monmouth)
