Monmouth was filled with hundreds of Santas running along its streets on Sunday for the fifth annual Santa Fun Run.

The event, organised by the Spirit of Monmouth Running Club, saw everyone join in the festive fun with a mix of costumes including elves, robots as well as the traditional white beards and red tunics.

"There has been a great response to the fun run again this year," said Race Director Laurence Moore, "especially as everyone has raised lots of money for two worthy causes."

This year's run is hoping to better the amount raised for charity in 2011, which came to over £2000. All proceeds this year will be used to support Monmouth's own Savoy Theatre and also Action Duchenne, the charity dedicate to finding a cure for muscular dystrophy.

This year the weather was perfect for running, with dry, bright conditions around the 1.3 mile course. Josh Sparkes and Katherine Finch were the first under 16s across the line. Men and women's races were won by Ben Coulton and Emma Davies.

The Monmouth Santa fun run is now regular feature on the Wye Valley events calendar, so get in training for next year's event, on the first Sunday in December 2013.
