PLANNING permission for the expansion of a Monmouth-based business has been approved despite concerns from councillors over flooding issues.
Siltbuster Ltd, based on Wonastow Road, Monmouth, applied for permission to develop a new 10-acre commercial building with associated car parking to be served direct from the already-approved new access road. This access will also serve an open storage area for kit and equipment to the east and north of the site.
The size of the proposed building has been the result of the accommodation requirements of Siltbuster and space requirements for their expanding business allowing for further future growth.
Siltbuster’s application received support, with letters from local businesses and MP David Davies who described the company as “extremely impressive”.
Concerns were voiced at yesterday’s planning committee (1st March) over potential flooding issues on the site.
Councillor Sue White voiced the concerns of one resident who feared works on the site would contribute to the flooding of his property.
Cllr Alan Whintle said: “I’m glad Siltbusters have moved to the site because they’re a good company. They’re growing and we want to help them as much as we can.
“I am afraid of how the site is being developed. If it’s possible for a drainage system to be put around his boundary that would probably ease his problems.”
It was agreed that drainage should be placed around the resident’s property.
Business Unit Manager at Siltbuster, Richard Coulton said: “This will enable us to expand our company as previously discussed with a view to doubling our staff (from 49 to over 100) in the next five years.”
