Monmouth MOT Centre is opening its doors to the public this Saturday, as they combine a celebration of the life of one of their own with raising thousands for a local palliative care hospice.

DJ Williams a mainstay at Monmouth MOT Centre will be remembered by everyone who came across him. The larger than life character led a full life until he passed away on February 7 having been diagnosed with lung cancer last year.

St David’s Hospice is a charity that has supported people and families in Monmouthshire with care and support for over 40 years. Their funding is almost exclusively via voluntary income and costs are currently £15k a day. All the services from St. David’s are provided free of charge, so they are almost exclusively reliant on donations to provide the care and support needed in Monmouthshire.

They were hugely supportive of DJ and his family, who now want to return the support they received by raising as much as possible for the charity.

Mike Rhys–Williams Monmouth MOT owner and friend of DJ added ‘’We’re bringing the community together for a fundraising day in memory of DJ Williams; a day to celebrate life, share stories, and show support for his chosen charity - St David’s Hospice Care.

In place of a traditional wake, his family and friends wanted to create a day that focuses on togetherness; celebrating DJ’s life, the impact he had on so many people, and the community he was so much a part of.’’

There will be family fun throughout the day including a 12 hour spin-bike challenge led by the Monmouth MOT team and an auction of some fantastic prizes that vary from a 4 ball round of golf at the Vale Resort, food vouchers, Hampers, a 50 inch TV to a marbled sink and even a trolley jack!

Food and drink will be available throughout the day, and Mike concluded that ‘ this is a chance to share memories with everyone who knew DJ and to support St David’s Hospice Care, whose incredible team have supported DJ and his family during a very difficult time.’’

The fundraiser begins at 7am on March 14 and will continue through to 7pm, 12 hours later. If you’re unable to attend but want to contribute click here
