Drivers traveling across Monmouthshire are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys this August as Monmouthshire County Council implements a series of temporary road closures across the region to facilitate essential utility, tree, and highway maintenance work.

The initial disruptions begin in Magor, where a temporary closure along Whitewall—spanning roughly 90 metres south-east from its junction with Redwick Road—is in effect from August 5 to August 7. The closure is necessary to allow Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water to complete required infrastructure works safely. A fully signed diversion route directs traffic via Redwick Road, Newport Road, the B4245, The Ramp, The Causeway, and Boundary Road.

Later in the month, Welsh Water will move operations to Devauden. From August 18 to August 20, a 115-metre stretch of the R84 Road (running from Ty Du Road to Nex Common) will close near the Glyn Farm Road junction. Drivers will be diverted along the main B4293 and Glyn Farm Road.

Major road surface maintenance is also scheduled for Penallt. Lone Lane will undergo a temporary closure covering roughly 0.55 kilometres from its junction with Pentwyn Lane. To minimize disruption during peak commuting hours, the closure will operate between 08:00 and 15:30 daily, running from August 10 until August 21. Traffic will be re-routed via Pentwyn Lane and Glyn Road.

Meanwhile, in Mynyddbach, preparations are underway for vital cabling and tree management. A 60-metre section of Weyloed Lane, starting at the B4235 Usk Road junction, will close between 9:30am and 3:30pm every day from August 17 until August 21. Alternative routes will send drivers through the B4235 Usk Road, Ditch Hill Lane, and Old School Hill.

Head of Neighbourhood Services, Carl Touhig, confirmed through formal public notices issued under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 that reasonable access for properties fronting affected roads will be maintained throughout the work periods.

Motorists are reminded that contravening the temporary restrictions constitutes an offence under statutory regulations. Local residents and commuters are strongly encouraged to check routes beforehand to avoid unnecessary delays during these scheduled maintenance periods.
