Drivers travelling through Monmouth are being urged to plan ahead as a busy stretch of the A466 is set to close for almost two weeks while essential resurfacing work is carried out.

Monmouthshire County Council has announced that the section of Dixton Road between the A40 junction and Monk Street will be closed from Wednesday, August 5, until Monday, August 17. Work will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day, although the temporary traffic order will remain in force for up to 18 months if required to complete the scheme.

The resurfacing programme is being carried out to improve the condition of the highway and ensure the work can be completed safely. The council said reasonable access will be maintained for properties along the affected section of road throughout the closure.

Signed diversion routes will be in place, directing traffic via the A40 and B4293 through Monmouth town centre, with an additional diversion using the A466 for motorists travelling towards Monk Street.
