Monmouthshire motorists are advised to plan their journeys carefully as a series of temporary road closures and traffic regulations are set to take effect across the county. Issued by Carl Touhig, Head of Neighbourhood Services for Monmouthshire County Council, the orders are vital to allow essential utility, telecommunications, and engineering works to be carried out safely.

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water works will impact several local routes. A 70-metre section of Cae-Bach Road in Llandenny Walks will close temporarily from June 27, 2026, for an anticipated three days. Drivers will be diverted via Ton Cottages Road, Usk Road, and Llandenny Road.

In Chepstow, a 35-metre stretch of Green Street, near Hardwick Avenue, will close from July 4 to July 5. Because Green Street is a no-through route, no signed diversion will be active, meaning motorists should expect minor delays as site access is maintained.

Furthermore, a 155-metre section of Chapel Road in Earlswood is scheduled for closure between July 6 and July 8. A diversion will guide traffic through the C67.1 Shirenewton to Wentwood Mill Road, Argoed Road, and Chapel Road.

In Osbaston, telecommunication upgrades will bring phased closures to Highfield Road from June 25 to July 1. The work will move through three distinct phases:

  • Phase 1: Closure from Beaufort Road to Duchess Road.
  • Phase 2: Closure from Duchess Road to Prospect Road.
  • Phase 3: Closure from Prospect Road to Agincourt Road.

Signed diversions will utilise Lancaster Way, Osbaston Road, St Marys Road, and the A466 Hereford Road.

Meanwhile, engineering works by MJ Quinn Civils will shut down a 220-metre stretch of Red Hill in Usk, starting approximately 70 metres from its Chepstow Road junction. This closure runs from June 29 through to July 31, operating daily between 08:00 and 17:00, with a diversion via the A472 and B4235.

Brief, single-day closures are also planned for local poling works. On July 3, The Ramp in Undy will close for a 30-metre section from Whitehall Gardens between 10am and 5pm. Shortly after, on July 7, a 200-metre section of Leechpool Holdings in Portskewett will close during identical daytime hours.

The council confirms that reasonable access will be maintained for all properties fronting the affected areas. Under Section 16(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, any driver contravening these temporary restrictions will be guilty of an offence.
