Monmouthshire motorists are advised to plan ahead this summer as a major wave of essential utility, telecom, and highway maintenance works triggers disruptions across the county’s road network.

Monmouthshire County Council’s Head of Neighbourhood Services, Carl Touhig, has issued a series of temporary traffic regulation orders to ensure public safety while engineering teams carry out vital infrastructure upgrades. While residential access will be maintained at all locations, standard signed diversions are being deployed to reroute through-traffic.

Commuters in Osbaston face a rolling multi-phase disruption along Highfield Road starting June 25. Telecommunication works will force a series of closures spanning from Beaufort Road to Agincourt Road, concluding around July 1. Drivers will be diverted via Lancaster Way, Osbaston Road, and the A466 Hereford Road.

Meanwhile, essential "poling" works will disrupt rural routes. On June 22, St Brides Road in St Brides Netherwent will close from 10am to 5pm south of Carrow Road, with a diversion available via the A48 and B4245 . Later in the month, on June 30, a 430-metre stretch of the R36 Celyn-Kiln to the Boot road in Skenfrith will close between 8am and 5pm, with a signed diversion via the B4521 and B4347.

The longest single disruption belongs to Red Hill in Usk. Civils contractor MJ Quinn is scheduled to shut a 220-metre section near Chepstow Road from June 29 until July 31. A comprehensive diversion will guide vehicles via the A472, B4235, and C214.1.

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is also spearheading several urgent repairs. In Gwehelog, concurrent closures will strike Llancayo Road and Duffryn Road between June 24 and June 26, prompting intricate dual-route diversions via Trostrey Common and Berllwyd Road. Additionally, Cae-Bach Road in Llandenny Walks will see a 70-metre closure from June 27 to June 29.

Drivers in St Arvans should look out for surface dressing works on Devauden Road. A nearly 1-kilometre stretch from the A466 junction will be entirely shut from June 24 to June 29 between 8am and 6pm

Notably, the upcoming water works on Kymin Road in The Kymin on June 22 will feature no signed diversion. Because the route is a dead end, council officials confirmed that access and egress will be strictly managed on-site, though residents have been warned to anticipate short delays.
